Gouy phase anomaly in optical coherence tomography

We analyze the influence of the frequency dependent accumulated Gouy phase anomaly on the axial precision of optical coherence tomography (OCT) measurements. Relying on a fiber-based OCT configuration, we develop a model and demonstrate experimentally that the Gouy phase shift can lead to significant errors in presence of chromatic aberrations. An additional contribution related to the phase distribution over the aperture of the collecting fiber is also considered.
