Growing Pains: Meeting India's Energy Needs in the Face of Limited Fossil Fuels

As a country that will experience shortages of fossil fuels in the not too distant future, India will need to develop renewables, mainly solar and nuclear power. In the coming decades, however, coal will remain the major source of power. Reducing energy requirements by pushing demand side management is a high-priority option for India. From the viewpoints of both climate change and energy security, these are India's imperatives.
