Presents a design algorithm of variable structure control (VSC) for continuous-time linear systems from the sampled data of the impulse response. The variable structure (VS) controller with sliding sector is designed so that the state moves from the outside to the inside of the sliding sector in a finite time and the resulting VS control system is quadratically stable. To implement the design algorithm for unknown systems, the parameters of the considered continuous-time system are identified by an algorithm based on the Markov parameter and the time moments from the sampled input-output data. The simulation result shows that the proposed VS controller is chattering-free and with good control performance.
