Design considerations for a visual language for communications protocol specifications

Communications protocol specification is a complex problem domain in which a visual paradigm may be employed. The paper describes the desirable characteristics of a visual specification language for this problem domain, and presents a preliminary design for such a language, based on message-flow diagrams.<<ETX>>
