Energy storage for railway systems, energy recovery and vehicle autonomy in Europe

The benefits of the use of energy storage means for traction vehicles has been demonstrated for many years, as well in academic research as in industrial prototypes. Today, the well developed storage equipments are coming in commercial vehicles and first experiences are related. This paper will present three applications proposed and realized by European companies, who have sold and commissioned new types of railway vehicles.
