Adaptive flexible antennas for wireless biomedical applications

Flexible electronics enables wireless medical applications for mobile physiologic monitoring. Antennas for such applications remain in their developmental stage. We implemented novel fabrication and integration methods to embed flexible antennas into FDA-approved skin-adhesives routinely used in clinical settings. We prototyped our approach using a Bluetooth transceiver cascaded with an antenna mounted on the skin and a bottle. The system robustly communicated to a smart phone with coverage of 175ft. Our antennas are tuned for different materials and curvatures by simply altering the length using a pair of scissors.
