Remote Monitoring System for Soil Moisture Based on ZigBee and ARM9

For meeting the needs of information collection of agriculture,a remote monitoring system was developed based on the combination of ZigBee network and the GPRS network.Data collection of field information was completed by using CC2430 radio frequency chip, which could collect soil temperature, crop leaf temperature, soil moisture and light intensity.System control terminal was designed based on ARM9 and embedded Linux operating system, which is used to receive,real-time display and storage the information of field and to communicate with the remote management center by GPRS.The test results showed that when the data sampling interval was set for 40 min,2 groups WSN nodes were chosen, the system could get the information of soil temperature, leaf temperature, soil water content and light intensity. Those of node 1 are 24.7,25,0.75 and 18,and those of node 2 are 25.3,25,0.85 and 18,respectively.System could automatically monitor soil moisture information, simple structure, flexible nodes and low power consumption. It realized the effective monitoring of field information in the wireless environment, and provided a strong basis for the implementation of farmland irrigation.
