The Grenoble hybrid magnet

The construction and performance of the Grenoble hybrid superconducting magnet is described. The hybrid magnet has two superconducting coils. The outer is designed in the commonly used pancake configuration; the inner is wire-wound and exposes the larger side of the rectangular wire to the coolant in order to increase heat transfer area. After a brief discussion of the evolution and testing procedures for the magnet, it is reported that a DC magnetic field of 31.4 T was generated. >
