Mr. Silicon Chips of Taiwan: An Interview with Chung-Yu Wu

rofessor Chung-Yu Wu of National Chiao Tung University has an impressive record of contribution to the IEEE. He is the Chairman of the IEEE Taipei Section that coordinates activities from various IEEE societies there. He also served as Chairman of the IEEE Circuits & Systems (CAS) Society Taipei Chapter from 1992-1994. In 1994, he was the General Chair of the IEEE CAS Society's AsiaPacific Conference on Circuits and Systems (APCCAS) in Taipei. He has made extensive contribution to the publications division, too. At present, he is an Associate Editor of IEEE Transactions on Circuits and Systems, Part II with responsibility for digital systems; and he is an Associate Editor ofIEEE Transactions on VLSI Systems. His service also extends to the emerging multimedia field as a Guest Editor of special issue on Multimedia Technologies t o be publ ished i n IEEE Transactions on Circuits and Systems for Video Technology in June 1997. He also is helping organize a special session on VLSI Neural Nehorks with Intelligent Signal Processing for the 1997 International Symposium on Circuits and Systems in Hong Kong, and he will also give a short course at the conference. Professor Wu helped to establish the Chip Implementation Center (CIC) in Taiwan, an equivalent to the MOSIS Service in the United States of America. A reputable researcher, Professor Wu is the inventor of nine U.S. patents and 10 Taiwan patents. He has published mnre than 170 papers in international scientific and technical journals and conferences.
