Cooperative location management method in next generation cellular networks

Location management (LM) as an essential process in personal communication services (PCS) networks imposes significant volume of signaling to the network. Different schemes have been proposed to decrease the cost of LM signaling load specially in the future wireless networks with a great amount of users besides new services. In this paper, cooperative location management (CLM) scheme is introduced for next generation wireless networks where subscribers can communicate with each other via ad hoc networking. In this method network searches mobile terminals cell-by-cell instead of ring-by-ring method which exists in time, movement and distance based methods. An analytical method is available to study performance of CLM scheme. Results of analytical study and simulations show that the proposed scheme has better performance compared with time-based LM method.
