The design of a novel large bandwidth random-signal analyzer with 20-Gs/s sampling frequency and 60-dB dynamic range is discussed. Using the principle of nonsimultaneous spatial sampling, its realization, led through several 0.18-μm GaAs PHEMT MMIC, authorizes the microwave characterization of a first demonstrator, which allows a temporal analysis depth of 1.2 ns and a risetime as fast as 20 ps. © 2005 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
