Case Studies of IWRM Archetypes

Case studies can clarify the principles and provide context to discussions of IWRM scenarios. They also offer a common platform to discuss IWRM across disciplines with different perspectives. The case study method provides structure to develop them and is used across several fields that focus on complex problems with multiple dimensions. It is especially useful in management-oriented fields that deal with complexity and the need to understand context. This includes development situations, which are multidimensional and complex and often involve water in one way or another. The chapter presents a number of short cases to illustrate the application of IWRM across problem scenarios in the context of national income levels and the local, regional, national, and international scales.
