Large area display element using PVF2bimorph with double-support structure

The bending properties of a double-support PVF2 bimorph cantilever structure were investigated theoretically and experimentally. Decreased drive-voltage and gravity sag deformation were confirmed. Using the analytical result, it is possible to design a PVF2 double-support structure for specified conditions of display area, response time, driving voltage, and gravity sag deformation. Typical properties of a double-support bimorph with 9 μm-thick PVF2 layers, 4 cm in total length, are: 120 V drive-voltage, 60—100 msec response time, and ±1.8 cm deflection.
