NON-LINEAR DYNAMIC ANALYSIS OF STAYED STEEL COLUMNS

This work describes non-linear finite element simulations made on stayed system subjected to sudden impact loads. The study aimed to determine the influence of the prestress forces magnitude and its response with and without damping effects. Various cases where the load magnitude varied from 10% up to 100% of the stayed column load bearing capacity were investigated. The performed analyses enabled an evaluation of the structural system amplification factor to be later compared to allowing horizontal deflection limits usually adopted in steel design standards.
