On the Selection of Optimum Machining Conditions

Evolutionary Operation method (EVOP) is applied and discussed for the selection of optimum machining conditions. It is possible to use this method in a machine shop easily. Effects of variables, standard deviations and 95% error limits are calculated for the statistical evaluations on this method.A simple example is presented to illustrate the process of determination of optimum cutting speed and feed by the application of EVOP based on the maximum-profit criterion with quality requirements. It is shown that the optimum cutting conditions are strongly affected by the quality requirements. The experiments suggested high cutting speed and low feed rate for finish turning and low cutting speed and high feed rate for rough turning to be selected. The effect of the selling price variation due to production volume on cutting conditions is also discussed.
