AnEfficient Flow Control Algorithm forMulti-rate

This paperdescribes a novelmulti-rate multicast congestion control scheme based onthewell-known proportional plusintegrative control technique, wherethecontrol parameters canbedesigned toensure thestability ofthecontrol loopin termsofsource rate. Thecongestion controller islocated atthe nextupstream nodesofmulticast receivers andhasexplicit rate (ER)algorithm toregulate therateofthereceivers. We further analyze thetheoretical aspects oftheproposed algorithm, show howthecontrol mechanism canbeusedtodesign acontroller to support many-to-many multi-rate multicast transmission based onER feedback, andverify its agreement withsimulations inthe caseofbottleneck link appearing inamulticast tree. Simulation results showtheefficiency ofourschemeintermsofthesystem stability, highlinkutilizations, fastresponse, scalability, high throughput andfairness.
