Single-shot all-optical sampling oscilloscope with fiber pulse replicator

Many methods to analyse optical waveforms have been proposed but the most straightforward method is to use the high bandwidth sampling oscilloscope. Sampling of the RZ data stream at 640 Gb/s data was demonstrated [1]. Synchronous all-optical sampling uses the clock signal recovered from the measured data and provides accurate waveform or eye-diagram. Eye diagrams can be measured by cost-effective and bit-rate transparent asynchronous all-optical sampling technique that requires no clock recovery. Software-synchronized all-optical sampling technique that do not require the clock-recovery unit was developed by Westlund at al. When the data are not repetitive, or the averaging provided by other techniques is not desirable, a single-shot technique should be used. High-dynamic-range single-shot cross-correlator based on pulse replicator composed of angled high reflector and partial reflector was proposed by Dorrer et al. [2]. In this paper we propose single shot optical sampling oscilloscope that uses a fiber pulse replicator and a sampler based on FWM.
