In this paper, the efficiency of four different merging techniques is examined, in order to improve the spatial resolution of a Landsat 7 ETM image of the city of Pyrgos, western Peloponnese, Greece. The general conclusion is that the PCA merging technique is preferable if the user wants to maintain the natural colors in the 321 merged RGB image. Applying the IHS merging technique, an optimum result in the texture of the urban area may be achieved and its elements, like blocks or streets, are more clearly discerned.
