Joint Vandenberg Air Force Base/Santa Barbara County Program to establish three SLAMS in support of the development of the Space Shuttle and MX Projects

The joint Vandenberg Air Force Base/Santa Barbara County program to establish three state and local air monitoring stations represents a unique undertaking for the Air Force and an innovative approach by the SBAPCD. This effort is consistent with the commitment the Air Force has made to protect the environmental quality at Vandenberg in the face of the development of two major projects - STS and MX. It is also a significant accomplishment for the SBAPCD which is able to substantially increase its ambient monitoring efforts in a period of diminishing resources. The resultant ambient air quality data base combined with the already existing extensive meteorological data base will form an extremely valuable resource for future studies. 10 references, 5 figures.
