High-frequency quasi-resonant and multi-resonant converter technologies

Resonant-switch topologies operating under the principle of zero-current switching and zero-voltage switching are introduced to minimize switching losses, stresses and noises. Employing the resonant-switch concept, the family of quasi-resonant converters (QRCs) and the family of multiresonant converters (MRCs) are derived from the conventional PWM converters. They are capable of operating in megahertz range, with a significant improvement in performance and power density. Characteristics of these QRCs and MRCs are reviewed and their relative merits and limitations are assessed.
