Servo controller design for an optical disk drive using fuzzy control algorithm

The fuzzy control of an optical disk drive compound actuator is presented. Many problems associated with the compound actuator control are addressed. The coarse actuator generally has a very different resolution from that of the fine, and the fine actuator is limited by its stroke. The fuzzy control logic provides an easy way for implementing these specifications. Results for fuzzy controller applications with different configurations are compared. A hybrid control algorithm is then proposed. It was shown that the common approach of using two stage control for track accessing and track following can be combined by using the fuzzy control algorithm.<<ETX>>
