Instrumentation system and digital signal processing for studying the characteristics of the acoustic and electrical signals generated by partial discharges

The aim of this research work is the study and the characterization of electrical and acoustic signals generated by internal partial discharges (PD) in an oil filled chamber. For this purpose, simultaneous measurements were made of three acoustic sensors (ultrasonic PZT) mounted outside on the walls of the chamber and one electric sensor (HF ferrite). The signals were processed with a novel algorithm in order to study the existence of correlations between the electric and the acoustic signals through a statistical analysis of the acoustic emissions that were generated at the same distance.
