Energy Consumption Monitoring Network

A major concern for modern economies is the raising consumption of energy and its impact on air, water, soil and climate. This paper presents an approach to sensitize energy consumers to the problem by providing two different new IT-tools. A tool called LCU (Life Cycle Unit) covers the private level. Its main functions are: Database, Consumption Monitor, Statistics and Evaluation Tools. The second and public part of the software has the working title ESPE (Energy Saving through Public Efforts). Its outstanding topics are: Data source, City model, Best practice award. LCU and ESPE can benefit from each other. The LCU com- pares the individual consumption data with statistical data from the neighbourhood. ESPE gets the basic data from LCU users. The conclusion of the paper is that energy saving is possible by influencing peoples thinking. This change can be supported by modern information technology.
