Bonded dissimilar materials containing cracks parallel to the interface

Abstract The paper considers the plane problem of two bonded semi-infinite elastic media with different thermomechanical properties. One of the half planes contains a crack lying parallel to, and at an arbitrary distance from, the interface. The system of integral equations for the general problem is obtained. The equations are solved for three combinations of adjoining materials for the case of symmetric and anti-symmetric uniform tractions acting on the crack surfaces. The stress intensity factors and the angles for the maximum cleavage stress at the crack tip are obtained and presented as functions of crack-to-interface distance to half-crack length ratio.
