A computational investigation of wireless sensor network simulation

A wireless sensor network (WSN) is a dynamic system of interacting sensor nodes that must be able to combine its understanding of the physical world with its computational and control functions and operate with constrained resources. Simulation involves addressing a wide range of WSN issues such as limited energy reserves, computation power, communication capabilities, and automated sensor nodes. In this project, simulation is used to evaluate the performance of five (5) simulation tools -- ATEMU, AVRORA, Castalia, JProwler and SENSE -- where each will be subjected to similar development, implementation and testing using a local graphics processing unit (GPU) cluster. This project aims to provide researchers and developers with beneficial computational data on the performance of specific benchmark algorithms and source code in a simulated WSN environment.
