English Historic Carpentry

Surveys the development of carpentry from Greensted AS church through to the Renaissance and after. Particular attention is paid to the identification of Saxon work, e.g., Sompting steeple. Cruck buildings are excluded; examples are drawn mainly from the south-eastern counties, and structural joints and features are listed in chronological sequence at the end of the book. The use of obsolescent joints can pose problems. -- AATA
