Hydrogen Hybrid Vehicles for University of Birmingham Campus

The concept of The Zero Emission Campus is described and the design of hydrogen hybrid vehicles is outlined. Five vehicles have been built and supplied to the campus at the University of Birmingham to give high efficiency and zero emissions. A hydrogen fuel station operating at 350 bar has been installed and green hydrogen supplied to the vehicles. This paper describes the results of the vehicle operation study which started in November 2007. Various tasks and drive cycles have been investigated including postal and food deliveries, taxi service for visitors and estate duties. The possibility of economic operation compared to standard diesel vehicles is discussed. (3 pages)
