This article draws on sociologically-informed theoretical conceptualisations of scientific citizenship and public engagement with science in a range of informal settings. In so doing, the article addresses an emerging area of study - the relationship between digital science communication and public engagement - collating data from disparate sources and drawing on a series of case studies, analysing science communication in a range of broadcast, print and new media.
