Objective To study the forming process of shaft parts by asymmetric cross wedge rolling. Methods The forming process of shaft parts by asymmetric cross wedge rolling was analyzed by the finite element simulation technology. The stress and strain state changes and the relationship of rolling force changes with the contact area in the forming process were obtained in the asymmetrical cross wedge rolling. Results The simulation results showed that the transverse shear strain was basically approximate center symmetric distribution, and in a tensile state from the core with an angle 45° to the horizontal direction, exhibiting elliptical shape characteristics in the uniaxial forming process. Conclusion Larger rolling force was needed to overcome the resistance caused by the shaft plastic deformation in the rolling wedging procedure. In the broadening and finishing procedures, the rolling force showed an increasing trend with the contact area between the die and the workpiece.
