Elimination of Power Line Interference in ECG Signal Using Adaptive Filter, Notch Filter and Discrete Wavelet Transform Techniques

AnECGisabiomedicalnon-stationarysignal,whichcontainsvaluableinformation abouttheelectricalactivityoftheheart.TheECGisverysensitiveandaweaksignal, hence, itgets corruptedbyvarious typesofnoise suchaspower line interference, baseline wander, motion artifacts, muscle contractions, electrode contact noise, etc.,thatmayleadtoamisdiagnosis.Amongthesenoiseparametersthepowerline interferenceisverycrucialbecausenoisefalls intheECGbandwidth, i.e.0.05Hz to100Hz.Thearticleproposestheremovalofpowerlineinterference(PLI)noise inanECGsignalbasedondiscretewavelettransform(DWT)andadaptivefiltering techniques.Theresultsarecomparedwiththeexistingnotchfilterbothintimeand frequencydomainbyfilterperformanceparameterslikeESD,MSE%PSDandSNR.
