Design of Two-Dimension DMA Controller in Media Multi-Processor SoC

The programmable multiprocessor-based system-on-chip received more and more attention because of its high-performance and flexibility for real-time media processing. It brings new challenges in data transportation among modules. The direct memory access (DMA) technology had been widely used to transport data in media processing. But the traditional DMA mechanism can not satisfy the requirement of the more complex SoC design. After analysis of the storage characteristics of media data, a task-chain based two-dimension DMA mechanism was proposed.Meanwhile, a distributed DMA controller was proposed for the network-on-chip based multi-processor SoC. The architecture of the controller is described in detail. This work is just preliminary. Many experiments should be done.
