Frequency reuse applied to CDMA channels in a cellular system

A cellular system based upon several CDMA channels arranged in a multiple overlay/underlay pattern is proposed. The channel reuse is arranged to minimize interference between like channels. Performance analysis was conducted for both the proposed and the standard CDMA systems under the same propagation path loss, multipath fading and lognormal shadowing channel conditions. The proposed CDMA/FDMA system is found to increase the forward link capacity by a factor of seven and the reverse link capacity approaches the ideal capacity of a single cell with perfect power control. In addition, the proposed system capacity was compared to a sectorized standard CDMA system. This proposed system demonstrated the potential of increasing capacity without deploying additional cell sites.
