The author critically examines the use of the logistic curve as a model for population growth. The reliability of projections of total population obtained using the logistic curve and the component method is compared. Official projections for Great Britain made since 1950 using the component method are evaluated and the logistic curve model is applied to population data for Great Britain the United States and Scotland (ANNOTATION)
