Individual identification in Romanian sheep breeds using microsatellite markers.

Genetic diversity, inbreeding level and parentage analysis can be important tools in the conservation of wild and endangered species which exhibit higher heterozygosity levels. Individual heterozygosity is more closely related to the degree of inbreeding. The aim of this study was to analyze the genetic characteristics of sheep breeds in Romania through the use of microsatellite molecular markers. Consequently, we have selected ten microsatellite loci that were amplified by multiplex PCR reaction in order to estimate the differences between individuals due to their high allelic variation. We have obtained a correct amplification for all microsatellites.
