Study of Binuclear Copper(II) Complexes Involving Bridging Schiff Bases. II

Abstract Binuclear complexes of copper have been synthesized by reacting aromatic diamines with ternary copper complexes consisting of combinations of the ligands 2,2′-bipyridine or 1,10-phenanthroline and salicylaldehyde or 2-hydroxynaphthaldehyde. The complexes have been characterized by elemental analyses, electronic and IR spectral and magnetic studies. Room temperature magnetic moments are found to be lower than the spin only value and indicate an exchange interaction between the copper(II) centres.
