Universal harmonic filter LINEATOR/sup TM/: new approach to harmonic mitigation

In this paper, new universal harmonic mitigating system, named as LINEATOR, is proposed. The innovative LINEATOR is proven advance in the area of passive harmonic mitigation. The device consists of multiwinding reactor with a small capacitor bank connected into cross link circuit in series with one of the reactor windings. In this arrangement, the winding connections reduce the voltage drop across the reactor (between the power supply system and nonlinear load), while presenting a high impedance between supply system and the cross-link circuit. As a result, the majority of harmonic currents are diverted from the power system into cross link circuit and the harmonic currents which flow into supply system are radically reduced. Some specific feathers of new filter are especially useful for utilization in variable speed drives. The performance and advantages of the proposed structure is discussed so as the experience of its utilization in Canada, USA, Brazil and other countries.
