Effects of symbol time misalignment and frequency offset on performance of realistic all-optical OFDM system

We theoretically investigate the performance of realistic all-optical orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (AO-OFDM) system and analyzed effects of OFDM symbol time misalignment and frequency offset between transmitter and receiver on performance of AO-OFDM system. For 10-subcarrier system without cyclic prefix (CP), results shows that the time misalignment gives more penalty in received Q2 and high BER than frequency offset, measured for subcarrier at middle. To keep BER performance under 10-3 for subcarriers at middle, maximum acceptable relative deviation for symbol time misalignment is 16% and for frequency offset is 24%.
