Stima dell'affidabilita' di opere marittime: un caso esemplificativo

This paper aims at disseminating reliability analysis methods in the field of maritime engineering. The main methods are briefly presented with the description of their characteristics, and then the Level II method, at first order of approximation (FORM), is covered in greater detail. The method is applied in order to assess the reliability of a vertical breakwater, Genoa Voltri main dike: for brevity only two mechanisms were considered, sliding and excess of overtopping. For the second mechanism, particularly simple, the detail of the procedure is presented step by step. Finally, the degree of security of the pedestrian traffic over the breakwater superstructure is established using a level III approach.
