PLATOON METHOD FOR ANALYZING CAPACITY AND DELAY OF NON-SIGNALIZED INTERSECTIONS

The vehicular driving model at non-signalized intersections is studied in this paper based on a large number of in-situ observations. It is considered that a traffic stream possesses platoon character when it passes non-signalized intersections under the situation of large traffic volume. The capacity and delay of straight-going vehicles at six types of non-signalized intersections are analyzed by using an identical model according to the platoon theory. Finally, the method to determine the actual and limit capacity of non-signalized intersections is presented. (TRRL)
