Data management : implementation and lessons learned from Department of the Army data management program

Abstract : Information systems executives within Department of Defense (DoD) activities are being challenged to develop innovative ways in which information technology can contribute to the streamlining of DoD organizations. A key step in developing information systems that will meet the future needs of DoD organizations is to manage the data resource. This thesis examines the concepts, implementation strategies, and issues relating to data management and illustrates, using a case study of the Department of the Army data management methodology, the critical success factors required to implement data management programs throughout the DoD.
