Proposing an E-Learning System for Personalized EFL Vocabulary Learning

Vocabulary learning research indicates that word reoccurrence positively affects the small, gradual increments of learning words incidentally during second/foreign language reading. An adaptive e-learning system was constructed in this paper to support EFL incidental vocabulary acquisition by exposing learners to customized reading with immediate and repeated meetings with unknown/unfamiliar words in diverse texts. The system draws on the computer's capacity to identify and screen optimal reading texts so that learners read those customized texts containing particular unknown words that individuals encounter in the previous texts, and are exposed to them immediately and frequently as they read through the system. This e-learning system is supposed to create a supportive condition for second/foreign language vocabulary learning.
