Palette hyperbolique: un outil pour interagir avec des ensembles de donneacute;es

Manipulations and exploration of large data sets are common problems. This paper aims at adapting a fisheye technique that uses hyperbolic geometry. Unlike the classical approach, the hyperbolic space used in our research is tiled. The tiling method proposed supplies a code for data that ensures the neighbourhood between data. The difficulty lies in finding how to distribute data through the tiling. We give some heuristics to better target suitable data sets. Our research results in defining an interactive tool for manipulating such data sets: the hyperbolic palette. To illustrate the various possibilities of this tool, a prototype application was developed. Its goal is to provide a new palette to select a colour out of 16 million options. We show in this paper why such an application fulfills our heuristics to use an hyperbolic palette.
