Adapting learning content to user competences, context and mobile device using a multi-agent system: case studies

E-learning has revolutionized the education field. This fact, and the rise of mobile technology has led to the emergence of m-learning. There have also been new challenges such as adapting the learning content to the students’ context and mobile devices, asa student could be anywhere with a mobile device and in a specific context. This paper presents a new multi-agent system forsolving these challenges which has been used in two case studies in a Master of Software Engineering course. The first case studypresents the results of the experiments carried out with two simulated students with different profiles, contexts and characteristics. The second case shows the usage results of the system using different real mobile devices. The results showed that the learningcontent is selected based on the context specified by the student and the characteristics of the mobile device used. It was alsoobserved that some of the learning content was not supported by the mobile devices due to its format.
