Concept evaluation method for reducing lead time in product development

This paper describes an approach to product development time reduction based on a new solution evaluation model for conceptual design. The central idea ensures design, when concluded, encompasses the highest possible level of evaluation and consequently production can be developed seamlessly. The realization of this idea requires a more precise understanding and model of evaluation as used in early design stages. The method is composed of two parts: checking functional requirements are met and ranking based selection between alternatives using a Function Fulfillment Index (M). Function metrics, e.g. sharing and overload, are examined, alongside the means for maintaining relationships between the related alternative and requirements` data. The evaluation model is illustrated through a {open_quotes}time indicating{close_quotes} device. From the model explanation and illustration, appropriate conclusions are drawn.
