NOVICE DRIVER TRAINING EXPERIENCE

This paper describes results from a novice driving training experiment using a relatively automated system based on low cost PC technology. Most of the research success with this driving simulator is due to the ease of specifying its configration and driving scenarios and performance measures for evaluating critical situation awareness, psychomotor and cognitive driving skills. The current system is an extension of the basic simulator that allows automation of administration procedures, including flexible means for preparing orientation and familiarization material that can be tailored to particular objectives and can be prepared in any desired language.
