Man/Machine Interaction in Adaptive Computer-Aided Control: Analysis of Automated Control Allocation.

Abstract : Control allocation between the human operator and an intelligent control element is becoming an important part of advanced Navy systems, which place increasing emphasis on decision making as compared with manual control. The present research focuses on human factors criteria for the man/machine interactions in such shared decision and control systems. The research effort includes evaluations of task allocation methods, information feedback, decision risks, and operator indoctrination. This report presents the results of a series of experimental investigations of adaptive computer-aided control and task allocation.
