Social equity and information technologies: moving toward information democracy

The author explores the concept of information democracy, noting that it has roots in several fields -political science, sociology, social work, communication science, and library and information studies- but that it is explicitely recognized only in library and information studies. He focuses on the interplay between information technologies and society and on the theme of social equity in the distribution and use of information resources.
