Development of a juvenile fish outfall structure

During the design of an outfall structure to release juvenile salmon from a bypass system at a large hydropower installation it became apparent that very little, if any, data exists that adequately describe the local outfall plunge hydraulics or attempts to link the biological effectiveness to the plunge hydraulics. Presented in this paper are criteria used for the design of a unique end configuration for a surface outfall pipe. Hydraulic model data will be used to describe the plunge characteristics.
