A Systematic Approach to Synthesize Multi-port DC/DC Converters——Adopting Unipolar Pulsating Source Cells

Multi-port DC/DC converters(MPC) can be combined with multiple uni-directional DC/DC converters and bidirectional DC/DC converters into one configuration, which are of potential interest in applications such as renewable power systems and electric vehicle power systems, featuring simpler structure, lower cost and more flexible control. In this paper, available MPC were classified into different types, and the characteristics of each type were illustrated. The unipolar pulsating source cells(UPSC) were extracted from the conventional bidirectional converters;the approach to construct MPC with UPSC and buffer cells was proposed;and corresponding rules for combination and cascade of PSCs and buffer cells were given. Finally, five synthesizing rules for MPC were generalized and a series of MPC topologies were derived.
