Nuclear Waste and Agenda 21

Nuclear power and its attendant waste are similar to the Ring in J.R.R. Tolkien’s The Lord of the Rings. The Ring gave mastery over every living creature, but it was created by an evil power. As a result, it inevitably corrupted anyone who attempted to use it. The hobbits, who held the Ring, had to decide how to handle it. Erestor formulated the problem: “There are but two courses, as Glorfindel already has declared: to hide the Ring forever, or to unmake it. But both are beyond our power. Who will read this riddle for us?” (Tolkien 1965: 349–350; Blowers et al. 1991: xvii).
